The rescue operators will today begin vertical drilling in Uttarkashi’s Silkyara tunnel where 41 workers are trapped for 10 days now. The drilling is likely to begin at 2 pm today at the tunnel end.
Drones have been continuously used to study the gap between debris and the tunnel’s crown, but the drones also could not go beyond 28 metres over the debris and one of the drones even got damaged.
A robot deployed in the rescue operation by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) also failed to climb up the tunnel’s slope because of the debris.
The pushing of the pipe using the auger machine and fabrication of a protection canopy for the pipe drilling machine is taking place simultaneously that started early Tuesday.
Placement of extra box culverts also started early morning today after nine box were already placed.
On Monday, in a major turn to rescue the 41 trapped workers a six-inch alternate pipe managed to reach them. The authorities have constantly put efforts to continue to send essentials such as food and medicines to the trapped.
