On Friday, the Supreme Court denied a man’s request to be named India’s President and ordered the Registry to stop considering his future requests in this regard.
Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli’s bench deemed the petition to be “frivolous” and an abuse of the court’s process.
The petition, according to the highest court, was “scurrilous.”
The court had rejected Kishore Jagannath Sawant’s argument and ordered the Registry not to take his subsequent petition on the same subject matter any time soon.
The registry was also instructed by the court to remove “scurrilous” comments made by Jagannath Sawant from the file.
The petitioner-in-person, Jagannath Sawant, claimed that he was denied the opportunity to run in the most recent presidential election.
He claimed to be an environmentalist and stated that he would seek to resolve all of the world’s “messy circumstances.”
As an environmentalist, he can give remarks based on his specialised knowledge, but filing petitions in this manner is improper, the top court ruled during the hearing.
