Rajya Sabha Clears Women’s Reservation Bill Unanimously. Bill All Set To Become Law

The history women’s reservation bill has been finally passed from Rajya Sabha also decades. Now it just needs be cleared by the President to reserve 33% seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

In Rajya Sabha there were no negative votes against the bill and it received unanimous support. The bill was cleared by Lok Sabha on Wednesday with 454 votes in favour while, only two votes were against it.

Soon after passing of the bill, Prime Minister in Rajya Sabha said, “The debates were very successful. In the future as well, this debate will help us all. Thank everyone for their support to the bill. The spirit will give birth to new self-esteem among Indians”.

However, there have been continuous debates over the implementation of this bill including in Rajya Sabha also.

It is said that the bill can only be implemented after census and delimitation of the constituencies and this may take upto a period of six years.

The INDIA bloc led by Opposition stressed upon its immediate implementation.

“Amendment of this bill is not difficult… you (the government) can do this now but have postponed it till 2031. What does this mean?” said the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

In the mean time, Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien alleged BJP of not being serious about empowering women. He said, “You could not find one woman in 16 NDA states for Chief Minister”.
