Rahul Gandhi Gets Nominated To Parliamentary Standing Committee After Loksabha Membership

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, was on Wednesday appointed to the parliamentary standing committee on defense, just days after his right to vote in the Lok Sabha was restored.

Amar Singh, a Congress lawmaker, has also been named to the committee, per a Lok Sabha bulletin.

Sushil Kumar Rinku, a recently elected Lok Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party, has been proposed for the committee on agriculture, animal husbandry, and food processing. Rinku, the lone AAP representative in the Lower House of Parliament, just won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection.

Faizal P. P. Mohammed of the NCP has been nominated for the committee on consumer affairs, food, and public distribution after having his Lok Sabha membership reinstated in March.

Gandhi served as a member of the parliamentary panel on defense before being dismissed in March.

Days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a 2019 defamation lawsuit related to his “Modi surname” statements, Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was reinstated on August 7.

Gandhi was found guilty in the case and given a two-year prison sentence by a Gujarat court on March 24, with effect from March 23. This resulted in Gandhi being removed from the Lok Sabha.

A legislator is immediately disqualified for any sentence of more than two years. He sits in the Lok Sabha on behalf of Wayanad.
