On Wednesday, Congress veteran Kamal Nath promised the party workers that he would not “impose” himself on them and that he would “leave” if they so desired, a day after he played down the rumours about his decision to join the BJP.
In his native Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, the 77-year-old leader spoke to a gathering of party workers at Harrai and claimed he had been getting their affection and trust for a long time.
“If you want to bid farewell to Kamal Nath, it’s your choice. I am ready to leave. I don’t want to impose myself. This is a matter of your choice,” the former MP chief minister told the gathering.
Nakul Nath, the son of Mr. Nath, represents the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency.
It has already been announced by the senior Nath that Nakul will run for this seat again.
The seasoned lawmaker, who holds the Chhindwara assembly seat, stated that although the BJP is projecting itself strongly, Congressmen shouldn’t become alarmed.
“We have to vote for securing the future and I have trust in all of you,” he said.
Mr Nath said the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya belongs to all, suggesting that the BJP should not take credit for its construction.
“Does the BJP own the Ram temple? It belongs to all, including me. The temple is constructed with public money. The Supreme Court gave a verdict and since they (BJP) are in power, they constructed the temple,” he said.
Mr. Nath added that on the land he owned in Chhindwara, he built a sizable temple honouring Lord Hanuman and worshipped Lord Ram.
“We are religious people and keep our culture intact,” he stated.
The seasoned politician blasted BJP rumours as a “media creation” on Tuesday, amid rumours that he would join the party.
“No one else is expressing the conjectures that you (the media) are making. Have I ever given you a call? You ask me and you run the news. On Tuesday, Mr. Nath told reporters, “You ought to dispute this information.”
