Congress Supports Rahul Gandhi With Posters Outside Surat Court Ahead Defamation Verdict

Congress on Thursday stood with posters supporting Rahul Gandhi outside the Surat Court where the leader was to arrive for defamation proceedings against him.

Defamation case have been filed against the Congress leader for his “why all the thieves have Modi in their names” remark.

The posters put up by the party carried a line in Gujarati of poet Bismil Azimabadi which he had dedicated for the young freedom fighters for Indian Independence Movement “Sarfaroshi ki tammanna ab humare dil mein hai”. The posters even said, “let’s go to Surat in support of democracy” with pictures of Bhagat Singh.

In Surat a BJP MLA had filed a defamation suit against Rahul Gandhi for his 2019 remark which said, “Why all the thieves have Modi in their names, be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi?”.

As part of it’s show of strength in Surat, top officials from Congress and MLAs are in Surat for last two days along with party Sewa Dal workers and other party workers.

Mr Gandhi is expected to reach Surat airport at around 10 am and will leave for the court immediately. He will be present in the court during the judgement. The court proceedings will begin at 11 am.
