All the 41 workers trapped under the Silkyara tunnel In Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi for 17 days were finally rescued late on Tuesday after hundreds of efforts made by tech machines and augers.
Currently the temperature at the surface conditions is around 14 degrees and the extraction of these workers allowed each of them to re-acclimatize.
The workers were brought out on special stretchers that were lowered manually a two-metre wide pipe that was inserted into the holes drilled in the hill. Soon after the workers were rescued the Uttarakhand Chief Minister who was present at the spot hugged all of them.
Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force had gone down in the pipe to assess the inside conditions and guide the workers to follow the rescue protocols. Each worker was then strapped to the stretcher that was pulled out from the debris.
41 ambulances took the workers to the medical facility set in at Chinyalisaur immediately after they were rescued from the under construction tunnel.
In his response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the trapped workers and their families for their courage and patience. He even praised the rescue personnel for bravery and determination to bring out the workers..
“The success of the rescue operation of our labourer brothers in Uttarkashi is making everyone emotional. I want to say to those trapped in the tunnel that your courage and patience are inspiring everyone. I wish you all well and good health. It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long wait, our friends will now meet their loved ones. The patience and courage these families have shown in this challenging time cannot be appreciated enough,” said the Prime Minister through his X handle.
“I also salute the spirit of all the people associated with this rescue operation. Their bravery and determination gave new life to our labourer brothers. Everyone involved in this mission has set an amazing example of humanity and teamwork,” he further stated.
