2 Dead Of Nipah Virus In Kerala, Confirms Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that the two deaths in Kerala’s Kozhikode were caused by Nipah virus and not by fever.

Soon after reporting for two deaths, the Kerala Health Department announced alert in state.

Currently four patients are undergoing treatment in a private hospital where the two deaths took place. Out of the four patients three are children of age 4, 9 and a 10-month-old infant.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George chaired a high-level meeting to take stock of the situation.

The reports of the samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing and it is awaited, said Health Minister Veena George.

There were Nipah virus outbreaks in Kozhikode in 2018 and 2021 also. In 2018, the city reported total 23 cases and 17 put of them had succumbed to the deadly virus.
