With the plans of united opposition, NCP Cheif Sharad Pawar on Thursday met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi. Following the meeting the NCP leader called it “just a beginning”.
“Our thinking is exactly what Kharge ji told you. But mere thinking will not help. A process needs to be started…This is just the beginning. After this, talks will be held with other important opposition parties – be it Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, or others – to try to integrate them into this process,” Mr Pawar said while speaking to media.
The meeting took place at Mr Kharge’s Delhi residence.
Mr Kharge while speaking to media said that his party will try to meet opposition parties one by one “to save the country and democracy and keep the Constitution safe, for freedom of speech and expression, for employment of youth, and issues like inflation and misuse of autonomous bodies, we are ready to fight as one, ” said the Congress President.
Responding to the statements by Mr Kharge and Mr Pawar, Rahul Gandhi said that “a process has begun to unite the Opposition” adding he said, “this is the beginning. All parties are committed to this process”.
Last month, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha over defamation case against him. His disqualification bad brought unity in the opposition.
