Man Who Returned From South Africa Tests Positive In Chandigarh, Samples Sent To NCDC

As per the health officials of Chandigarh, a 39 year old man, who returned from South Africa has tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday in Chandigarh.

The man had returned from South Africa on November 21. However, the health officials had event conducted an RT-PCR on his arrival at the airport but he was tested negative.

He was home quarantined too until his re-testing after seven days, but the man who is the resident of Sector 36 was found Covid positive in his re-test.

In the mean time, two others related to the man — a family member and a domestic help have also been found positive for Covid-19 and two of his other family members have tested negative and one more member’s test report is still awaited.

The health officials of the Union Territory has sent the man’s samples to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi to check the variant of coronavirus.

“As per protocol, the positive cases are being shifted to an institutional quarantine facility. The samples of the positive cases will be sent for Whole Genome Sequencing to NCDC, Delhi to ascertain the variant/variant of concern (VoC), if any,” the health officials said.
