The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that 116 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Namibia in the previous day. In Karnataka, there have been three documented infections-related deaths.
As of Tuesday, there were 4,170 active cases nationwide, according to the new case count, and 5,33,337 people have died as a result of the viral illness.
As of December 25, 2023, 69 cases of the JN.1 Covid-19 variant were documented nationwide, according to sources.
According to sources, the number of cases comprised 34 from Karnataka, 9 from Maharashtra, 14 from Goa, 6 from Kerala, 4 from Tamil Nadu, and 2 from Telangana.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Delhi Health Minister, commented on the variation, saying, “The new strain of Covid is a sub-variant of Omicron.” There are two facets to it. They don’t pose a big threat.”
“Precautions need to be taken but panic should not be created,” he stated.
628 new coronavirus cases were reported in India on Monday, bringing the total number of active cases to 4,054. Kerala recorded one death in a 24-hour period.
The Union Health Ministry announced in a news release on Monday that as of December 24, there had been 63 JN.1 COVID variant cases registered nationwide.
In August, in Luxembourg, the JN.1 (BA.2.86.1.1) sub-variant of Covid was discovered. It is a descendant of SARS COV2’s BA.2.86 lineage (Pirola).
Dr. VK Paul, a member of NITI Aayog’s Health committee, stated last week that the Indian scientific community was closely examining the novel Covid sub-variant and emphasised the necessity for states to bolster their surveillance networks and increase testing.
Although the number of cases is increasing and the JN.1 sub-variant has been found in the nation, officials had stated that there is no need for immediate concern because 92% of infected individuals choose to receive treatment at home, indicating a minor disease.
Additionally, they stated that hospitalisation rates had not increased and that the discovery of Covid-19 in patients admitted for other medical reasons was coincidental.
In the meantime, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued updated operational guidelines for a new Covid surveillance plan, and states have been asked to make sure that these rules are effectively followed.
