A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a friend in Zirakpur, Punjab’s Mohali district, under the pretext of giving her a lift to her paid guest lodging.
The woman alleged in her complaint that the event occurred on the night of October 29, while she was on a bus back to Mohali from her home in Barnala. Because she was carrying a lot of stuff, she asked her buddy Kushwinder to pick her up from the bus station.
Around 8 p.m., Kushwinder, who had been waiting for her in an SUV, picked her up from the bus stop. Instead of dropping her off at her PG, he drove her to a remote location. After that, he threatened her with a gun, raped her, and left her on the side of the road.
The victim summoned a cab and arrived at her PG lodging. She filed a police report the next day. Kushwinder was from Bathinda, she mentioned.
A case was filed under the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 376 (rape), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with the aim to covertly and unlawfully detain a person), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
A manhunt has been begun to find the accused.
