The post-mortem report of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi,’ showed she died from strangulation. There were some suspicious marks found on her thighs and near her private areas, but the report didn’t confirm any sexual assault.
Kanchan, who was known for her bold and often controversial videos, was found dead inside a car parked near Adesh University in Bathinda on June 11. Two suspects were arrested two days later, but the main accused, Nihang Amritpal Singh Mehron, escaped to the UAE shortly after the crime.
The 27-year-old YouTuber’s post-mortem was done on June 12 at the Civil Hospital by a team of three government doctors. Samples from her body have been sent to a forensic lab to check if she was sexually assaulted before her death. Initial investigations revealed that Mehron, a radical Sikh leader, had approached Kanchan in early June, inviting her to a car promotion event in Bathinda. She left her home in Ludhiana on June 9 for this event but went missing afterward.
Her body was found only after locals alerted the police about a bad smell coming from a car near the university. Kanchan was quite popular online, with over 380,000 followers on Instagram and more than 230,000 YouTube subscribers.
Right after her murder, a video surfaced where Mehron claimed he killed her because of her “immoral and vulgar” content. He also warned other influencers not to post such content.
Police investigations, based on the two suspects’ statements, say that Mehron planned the murder three months in advance. They followed Kanchan’s movements and lifestyle before carrying out the crime. Authorities are now working on bringing Mehron back from the UAE to face charges.
