Article 370 has proven to be the best performing movie out of all the ones that are currently in competition. For the past 11 days in a row, the geopolitical action drama has attracted the most viewers despite some new releases and several holdover flicks. The movie has essentially taken off on its own, and it will continue to draw in the most viewers each day for the remainder of the week.
This was observed not just during the previous weekend, when the box office receipts were fairly excellent, but also at the beginning of this week, with Rs. 2 crores being brought in. Such collections are good enough to keep arriving on the weekdays of Week 2 for a film of this scope, size, locale, and genre. Actually, since the movie has already made a profit and recovered its costs—the current total stands at Rs. 56.44 crores—any collection during the week as long as it stays over Rs. 1.50 crores.
In the interim, one watches to see how far Laapataa Ladies travels in the days ahead. From a theatrical standpoint, its business does not align with its virtues, and on Monday, there is a possibility of a hold. That was always going to be difficult, particularly since there hadn’t been the kind of jumps during the first weekend that would have placed it comfortably, as had happened with 12th Fail. Therefore, all eyes will be on the maximum amount it can raise during its lifetime run, with Monday’s collections reaching Rs. 0.35 crores and the total collections reaching Rs. 4.10 crores.
