Xi Jinping Visits Moscow For 3-Day Visit, Meets Putin To Discuss ‘Ukraine Peace Plan’

On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow, the capital of Russia, to begin a three-day trip to the neighboring nation. Jinping encountered Vladimir Putin during his visit to the country. The Chinese President had stated that his “Ukraine war peace plan” addressed the concerns of both parties prior to the formal negotiations.

Notably, the president of Russia praised Xi’s peace initiative. The Chinese Parliament had earlier this month announced that Xi would meet with Putin and advocate for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

Xi’s stay will improve relations between China and Russia. China is backing Russia in an effort to weaken American dominance of the world. Both nations regularly conduct combined military drills and are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (9YNSC).

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin and Xi are expected to go into great detail about Russia’s military operations in Ukraine during dinner. The Chinese People’s Daily reported that the president of Russia referred to Xi’s arrival as a “landmark event.” According to Putin, the Chinese Premier’s presence will strongly signal to the US that it cannot cause the two nations to become weaker.

Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, claimed that Xi’s trip was one of friendship, collaboration, and harmony. China made the promise to contribute positively to the peace process in Ukraine. Wenbin said in regards to the Ukraine issue that China would maintain its impartial and objective stance on the situation and would work to advance peace negotiations.

China has stayed silent on international forums since the start of the Russian assault in Ukraine in February of last year. Beijing requested talks between Moscow and Kiev last month. China offered to mediate peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but the US rejected that offer.
