Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former leader of the Congress, declared on Sunday that he would not deceive the public over the reinstatement of Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave the former state of Jammu & Kashmir unique status.
The provisions of Article 370, which the Narendra Modi-led Centre repealed in August 2019, can only be reinstated by a government with a two-thirds majority in Parliament, according to Azad, who is also preparing to form his own party. Following his resignation from the Congress, he was speaking at his first rally in Kashmir.
“What can and cannot be done is known to Azad. You cannot get Article 370 back from me, the Congress party, three regional parties, Mamata Banerjee of the TMC, Sharad Pawar of the NCP, or the DMK “Azad informed the group.
The previous opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha vowed not to bring up subjects or slogans outside of his purview.
“Some have said that I avoid discussing Article 370. I want to assure them that Azad does not deceive voters in order to win elections “At the open forum conducted in north Kashmir’s Dak Bungalow, he stated.
The former chief minister of J&K stated that his new party will have a distinct philosophy. He claimed that his party will put special emphasis on restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a sovereign state and granting its residents exclusive access to jobs and land.
Altaf Bukhari, the leader of the Apni Party, came under fire from him for saying that Azad had voted in favour of repealing Article 370.
Azad declared, “I voted against the Bill brought by the home ministry for the repeal of Article 370.”
