A court in America’s Chicago has ordered the police to pay $2.9 million (₹22 crore) to a black woman after cops misbehaved with her. The woman had filed a complaint against the police, following which the court has asked to compensate her.
The case was from 2019, when some police officers forcibly entered in the woman’s house, searching for a criminal. During that moment the woman was changing clothes. The police had forcibly put her in handcuffs and questioned her for half an hour without clothes. The woman is a sociL worker.
Later, it was found that criminal, whom the police was searching lived in the neighbouring house of the woman not in her house. The woman had felt very humiliated by the incident.
In February, 2021, the woman had filed a complaint against the policemen, who misbehaved with her and humiliated her.
Subsequent to hearing the case, the court has now said in its order that the police failed to confirm the information of the informer and the woman needed to confront pointless harassment and humiliation. The court has ordered to pay the woman $2.9 million for the misbehaviour by the police.
