In the midst of a major controversy over allegedly pornographic movies, the police said today that a lady had filed a police case against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna for alleged sexual assault. The police station in the Hassan district, Holenarasipur, has received the First Information Report (FIR).
The Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has refuted the accusations and has also lodged a police report, claiming that the pornographic images that are being circulated were altered.
Prajwal Revanna departed early yesterday morning for Germany.
The state government would establish a special investigation team to examine into the case of the pornographic movies, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced yesterday.
The state women’s commission suggested the Siddaramaiah government take action, which led to the decision to establish the SIT.
The Chief Minister claimed that pornographic videos purporting to show women being sexually assaulted are making the rounds in Hassan district.
The survivor claimed in the FIR that she had experienced many instances of sexual abuse between 2019 and 2022. The new SIT will get the complaint. According to insiders, more women are expected to come forward and file complaints.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency was Prajwal Revanna. The second phase of voting took place on April 26. In September of last year, Janata Dal (Secular), or JD(S), became a member of the NDA.
Amid the scandal surrounding Prajwal Revanna’s alleged sex videos, the BJP has distanced itself from him.
“We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos and neither do we have any comments to make on the SIT probe announced by the state government into the alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna,” BJP state spokesperson S Prakash said.
