Some anti-social elements broke newly launched Howrah-bound Vande Bharat by pelting stones on Monday near West Bengal’s Malda’s Kumarganj station.
This comes just after 4 days when Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s 7th Vande Bharat Express on route encompassing Howrah and New Jalpaiguri Junction.
On December 30, in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Modi flagged off the train linking South Bengal to North Bengal.
On Monday, the train was running for the first time commercially after inauguration.
“On 02.01.23 at about 17.50 hrs, information received from on duty T.E party of T.N.22302 Vande Bharat Exp. was pelted with stones in coach no. C13 after crossing Kumarganj station under IPF Samsi. As a result, the door glass got cracked. The train escort contained 01 ASI along with 04 staff with Arms and Ammn.of RPF POST D-Shed MLDT, ” said Easter Railways over the incident.
A resident from Dankuni while talking to media said, “They pelted stones from the outside. It was shocking. The glass got shattered by the impact. It happened just before the train reached Malda Station. Thankfully, the chunk of stone did not hurt any of the passengers. We are shocked.”
The reason behind pelting stones and who pelted them is still unknown.
Apart from this, the railway officials have ordered a deep probe into the incident.
