Slamming the Prime Minister West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday in a letter questioned the price disparity in Covidshield by calling it “discriminatory and anti-people”.
In her letter she questioned why states would have to pay extra 167 per cent from the original price. She also expressed her fear that this would start an exploitative practice in the market. Complaints of price differentiation were never heard in the Indian history, she wrote.
“One nation, one party, one leader shouts BJP all the time but to save lives they can’t have one price for vaccine”, she said in a tweet.
Suggesting for pricing vaccine at ₹ 400 for the state government and ₹ 600 for private hospitals Ms Banerjee said, “In a grave crisis situation like the one the country is facing now, there is no place for business by vaccine manufacturers.”
