Voting Begins For Gujarat’s Phase 1 Elections, Toe To Toe Fight Between AAP And BJP

89 constituencies in Gujarat’s first phase of assembly elections from today. BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have emerged out as the two big oppositions as Congress was sweeped away in terms of visibility by the AAP earlier.

The 89 constituencies are situated in the Kutch and Saurashtra areas and the southern part of Gujarat.

Currently ruling BJP is looking for its consecutive seventh term in th state. It has been in power since 1995. However, the numbers for party have dropped from 137 to 99 since 2002.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah who has been in control of the operations has set up a target of achieving 140 out of 182 seats in this assembly elections.

Winning a landslide victory in Punjab earlier this year, AAP Chief is now very confident about Gujarat.

AAP has set up a target of 92 seats in the assembly elections after failing to even open its account in 2018. The party has decided to follow Delhi’s governance model in Gujarat also which focus on health and education.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah has challenged back AAP saying, “AAP is nowhere in the mind of the people of Gujarat. Wait for election results, maybe AAP’s name would not figure in the list of successful candidates”.

Congress who had won 77 seats in 2018 elections has requested the Election Commission that the ballot boxes are kept under the surveillance of the central forces and not under the state Police or home guards.

Polling for second phase in the state will be held on December 5 and the results will be declared on December 8.
