Vice Admiral Discloses Indian Navy’s Karachi Strike Plan Under Operation Sindoor

When India began Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, the Indian Navy was well prepared and capable of hitting specific targets both on land and at sea, including Karachi, Vice Admiral AN Pramod said on Sunday. “Our forces remained forward deployed in the Arabian Sea in a decisive posture with full readiness and capacity to strike select targets in sea and on land, including Karachi at the time of our choosing,” Vice Admiral AN Pramod said during a joint media briefing of all three forces on Operation Sindoor.

In response to the April 22 Pahalgam incident, which killed 26 civilians, India began Operation Sindoor on May 7 against the militant hideouts inside Pakistan and POK. While the Navy stood by, the Army and Air Force carried out targeted air and ground operations, destroying vast areas of terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.

The senior Navy official added that Pakistan was forced to maintain a defensive stance, primarily inside harbours or extremely near the shore, which the Indian forces were constantly monitoring, as a result of the naval force’s advance deployment. “The Indian Navy maintained seamless maritime domain awareness throughout the duration and was entirely aware of the locations and movement of Pakistani units,” he added.

Additionally, Vice Admiral AN Pramod reaffirmed that India has responded to Pakistani aggression in a prudent, non-escalating, proportionate, and measured manner from the start.

After the government promised “unimaginable punishment” to those responsible for the Pahalgam incident, the Navy notably held live-firing drills, launch tests, and combat operating rehearsals in the Arabian Sea. “Within 96 hours of the terrorist attack, the Navy tested and refined tactics and procedures at sea during multiple weapon firings in the Arabian Sea, revalidating the crew, armament, equipment and platform readiness to deliver various ordnance on selected targets precisely,” the Navy said in a statement posted on X.

All three forces, including the Navy, were ready to rain fire on the enemy ever since several top government leaders, including PM Modi, vowed a befitting reply to the dastardly attack. Following the Pahalgam attack, tensions between India and Pakistan increased, prompting India to take retaliatory measures. These included, in addition to the eventual military retaliation under Operation Sindoor, holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, downgrading diplomatic ties, cancelling the visas of Pakistani nationals, closing Indian airspace to Pakistani flights, suspending bilateral trade, and isolating Pakistan financially and internationally.
