The US is preparing for a retaliatory attack by Iran that can take place anytime next week targeting American assets or Israeli in the region.
This retaliation comes in response to Israel’s attack on Iranian embassy that killed one of the top commanders in Syria.
The governments of both US and Israel said that they were not aware how and when the Iran planned its attack, said an official.
In an airstrike on Iran in Syrian capital, General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the top Quds Force commander was killed.
This was one of the most high-profile killing since 2020, when Quds Force commander Major General Qassem Soleimani was killed in US drine strike.
Expressing concerns over the Iranian retaliation, two officials from US administration led by President Joe Biden said that the attacks will only target military and intelligence, no civilians will be harmed, they said.
Meanwhile, the administration has already begun planning out the plan to response to the retaliatory attacks by Iran, who can attack using land-attack cruise missiles as well as drones.
