In a retaliatory attack, the United States on Friday allegedly launched airstrikes targeting over 85 targets in Iran and Syria. The targets were linked to the Iran’s Revolutionary Gurad (IRGC) and the militants it backs. At least 18 militants have been killed so far.
This came following a drone attack in Jorden last week in which three US troops were killed.
The targets hit by the US military included intelligence centres, drone and ammunition storage sites, command and control headquarters and rockets and missiles.
In their first military action, the US forces targeted seven locations – four in Syria and three in Iran. Long-range B-1 bombers were used that killed around 18 Iranian militants in Syria.
Amid all this, President Joe Biden in his statement over the event said that, US ‘will respond’ if any of the Americans if harmed and the US military will continue to fight against the Jordan attack.
“Our response began today. It will continue at times and places of our choosing. The United States does not seek conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. But let all those who might seek to do us harm know this: If you harm an American, we will respond,” said the US President in his statement.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi military spokesperson Yahya Rasool condemned the US attack and warned of any instability across the region. “These airstrikes constitute a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, undermine the efforts of the Iraqi government, and pose a threat that could lead Iraq and the region into dire consequences,” he said.
Earlier, the Iran had even denied of any links with the drone attack in Jordan and said the militant group that claimed the responsibility of the attack did not take orders from the Iran government.
