The Supreme Court on Friday questioned Uttar Pradesh government on Friday, whether it wanted the apex court to put a ban on Pakistan’s industries over a petition on Pakistan’s air.
“Do you want us to ban Pakistan’s industries,” asked Chief Justice of India NV Ramana to Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, who had argued on behalf of UP government that air coming from Pakistan was worsening the air quality in Delhi.
He said that the industries in UP play no part to play in the national capital’s pollution as all the state industries are downwind and the polluted air doesn’t go towards Delhi. The UP government had a problem with the closure of industries. It said that the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas’ (CAQM) choice to permit industries to work just 8 hours will influence the sugarcane and dairy industries.
This was while a bench led by Chief Justice NV Ramana was hearing a petition on air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
Due to Thursday’s drizzling the Delhi’s AQI on Friday morning remained in poor category at 335.
Despite general ban on construction activities, the apex court has allowed the Delhi govt to continue construction of hospitals.
