UN Security Council Calls For Immediate Ceasefire In Five Months Of War On Monday

The UN Security Council on Monday for the first time called for immediate ceasefire after the US, vetoed previous drafts, restrained. This comes after more than five months of war.

All 14 members of the Security Council voted in favour of the immediate ceasefire during this Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The demands call for a “lasting sustainable ceasefire” and that Hamas and other militants release hostages in control since October 7.

Russia on the other side opposed the removal of the word “permanent” ceasefire and called for voting.

The US has repeatedly shown its increasing frustration with Israel and also announced plans to expand its military base to the southern city of Rafah.

A change of outlook towards its ally was seen on Friday after the US put forward its resolution for “immediate and sustained ceasefire”.
