Due to Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other festivals, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has chosen to postpone the University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), which was originally planned for Wednesday, January 15. On Monday, January 13, 2024, the NTA released a circular stating that the new exam date would be revealed later.
In the interest of candidates, the NTA stated that it had received a request to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 exam and has chosen to comply. The NTA circular advised candidates to check the NTA websites for the most recent information and stated that the examination set for January 16, 2025, will proceed according to the previous timetable.
The Students Federation of India had told the UGC that the dates, especially January 13 and 16, fell on holidays like Sankranti, Pongal, and Makara Pongal, which are widely observed in a number of south Indian states. “We implore the UGC to consider the practical and cultural ramifications for students from these areas. In order to maintain inclusivity for all candidates, we ask that the exams be immediately rescheduled to more convenient times,” SFI leaders Mayukh Biswas and V.P. Sanu stated in the representation.
Twice a year, the NET is administered to candidates for admission to PhD programs in 85 subject matter, junior research fellowships, and assistant professor positions.
