Twitter To Layoff 50% Staff, Employees To Get Emails On Firings Today

Because of the impending major layoff of Elon Musk, Twitter’s India office is a chaotic and depressing place. As the social media giant stated that it will ask several of its employees to depart by the end of the day, several workers are in tears and in despair on Friday morning. The business instructed its worldwide workforce of Twitter employees to go home and wait for an email to arrive in their inbox. At 9:30 PM India time, an email informing employees of their employment status with Twitter will be sent.

According to sources, several Twitter employees in India were locked out of their work email accounts as a result of that email this morning. At the time of writing, a large number of users were being logged out. This was a surprise. They had not anticipated being laid off. The employees weren’t informed in advance of the dismissals and weren’t ready for them either. Most of the Tweets, as they jokingly refer to one another, were sobbing in the face of the unknown.

The statement that was just delivered to Twitter staff stated, “We understand this is an extraordinarily painful process to go through, whether or not you are impacted.” We appreciate your continued adherence to the Twitter rules that forbid disclosing private company information with the press, on social media, or anywhere else.

The impersonal character of the Twitter email is what makes it extremely upsetting, if not cruel. The email is from “Twitter” and is addressed to “Team.” Even if Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, ordered the layoffs, it appears that he doesn’t want his name to be associated with the communication. Although there are little specifics on how the layoffs at Twitter were organised, some have suggested that Musk’s close confidantes, who joined the firm just a week ago after Musk acquired Twitter in a $44 billion deal, were responsible.

The precise number of employees to be let go is not stated in the memo. However, previous rumours have indicated that nearly 50% of Twitter’s 7,500-person workforce may be forced to depart. The number of Twitter employees in India who would be affected is unknown, but things don’t seem promising right now.

Less than a week has passed since Elon Musk assumed full control of the platform before the layoffs. He has already altered a few aspects of how the business is handled. When Musk became CEO of Tesla, there were rumours that he could ask several present Twitter employees to quit the company, but the Tesla CEO never confirmed it. He has, however, frequently discussed profitability.

A large number of Twitter employees have adopted various coping mechanisms. On Twitter’s Slack channels, several of them could be seen expressing their opinions while supporting one another by saluting in the military with an emoji. Some people formed a Twitter account to discuss popular culture as a diversion from what is going on at the corporation.

Although a report said Musk was looking into ways to prevent staff from vesting their unvested stocks, fired employees will still receive severance pay.
