Thousand Ofs Supporters To Protesting Wrestlers March To India Gate Demanding Arrest Of WFI Chief

The schedule ‘mahapanchayat’ to be held outside the new Parliament on Sunday will be led by women and youth, said the protesting wrestlers and the further decision will be taken by them only.

Thousands of supporters of wrestlers on Tuesday marched to India Gate starting from Jantar Mantar under tight security demanding immediate arrest of Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan.

The top protesting wrestlers include Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia.

The wrestlers have accused Mr Bhushan of sexually harassing many female athletes on pretext of checking their fitness.

The supporters went through the march even during the heatwaves and evening dust storm. There could have been a stampede as the they were huge in numbers but fortunately no mishap happened.

Many supporters who had joined from the bordering states also sloganeered with the other supporters holding tricolours demanding strictest punishment for the WFI Chief.

“For the last one month, we have been protesting (for government to take action against Brij Bhushan) and it is a matter of shame that nothing has happened so far.

Today, we took out a candle march at India Gate and we are getting reports that several organisations around the country that they too took out candle marches in their cities and districts,” said the wrestlers.

“We are also getting news that hundreds of our supporters were stopped from entering the national capital,” said Vinesh Phogat.

Seeing the huge support Vinesh further said, “I am very hopeful that soon we’ll get justice”.

She even paid gratitude to all the supporters for leading the “peaceful” march.
