Following heightened tensions in the Middle East, sparked by Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the subsequent closure of Iranian airspace, Air India has confirmed that 16 of its flights have either been rerouted or are returning mid-route as a precautionary measure on Friday, June 13, 2025.
In an official statement, the airline expressed regret over the disruptions, stating: “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unexpected situation. We’re doing everything possible to ease the impact, including offering hotel accommodations, complimentary rescheduling, and full refunds for cancellations.” Air India also reassured affected travellers that alternative travel arrangements are being made to ensure everyone reaches their intended destinations safely.
The airspace restrictions and rerouting come just a day after a catastrophic crash involving another London-bound Air India flight. The Boeing 787, which had departed from Ahmedabad with 242 passengers and crew, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, crashed into a medical college complex shortly after takeoff, resulting in one of the worst aviation tragedies in recent memory.
As global air traffic faces turbulence due to geopolitical tensions, Air India continues to monitor the situation closely and adjust operations in real-time to prioritize passenger safety.
