Tensions Emerge Between Delhi Police And Wrestlers At Jantar Mantar Farmers To Join Today

A brawl emerged between Delhi Police and the wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar against Wrestling Federation Chief Brij Bhushan over allegations of sexual harassment.

So far, there was no response from the police, but a video being widely circulating over the internet showed that some wrestlers were accusing police personnel for attacking two wrestlers in effect of alcohol.

The video showed the policeman sitting and his colleagues were just silent spectators. Former wrestler Rajveer said, “The mattresses got wet due to rain so we were bringing folding beds for sleeping, but the police did not allow that. Drunk policeman Dharmendra abused Vinesh Phogat and got involved in a scuffle with us”.

“They started hitting us. Bajrang Punia’s brother-in-law Dushyant and Rahul suffered head injuries. The police did not even let doctors reach the site. Even the women constables were misbehaving with us,” he added.

Bajrang Punia’s wife Sangeeta also asserted that she was pushed by the policemen.

Meanwhile, the wrestlers have asked farmers and their leaders to gather at Jantar Mantar on Thursday.

Since April 23, the top wrestlers have been sitting on the protest site demanding arrest of WFI Chief Brij Bhushan, whom they accused of sexual harassment and intimidation of 7 female wrestlers out of whom one was minor.

On Friday two FIRs had been lodged against the WFI Chief, who is also an MP iin Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
