Supreme Court Raps Patanjali Over Its Denial To File Affidavits On Misleading Ads, Next Hearing On April 10

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reprimanded Patanjali Ayurved’s co-founder Ramdev and its managing director Balakrishnan for their continuous denial for filing proper affidavits on company’s misleading advertisements.

Not just the Supreme Court, every order passed by the courts across this country has to be respected. This is absolute defiance,” said the apex Court today.

Issuing a warning to Ramdev’s company the Court said that the Patanjali is now in the “teeth of law” and “Be ready of action”.

The bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Hima Kohli also refused to accept the apology expressed by the Patanjali last month following the Supreme Court’s earlier rap.

Justice Kohli had said, “we are not happy with your apology”.

“You should have made sure that the solemn undertaking should have been in letter and spirit. We can also say that we are sorry for not accepting it. Your apology is not persuading this court. It is more of a lip service,” said the court.

Following which, lawyer of both Ramdev and Balakrishnan said that they were ready to apologize to the court.

“We want to apologise and are ready for whatever the court says,” said the Senior advocate Balbir Singh.
The bench had then asked the duo to file their affidavits in a proper manner within a week.

In the mean time, the top court had even rapped the Centre over its inaction in the matter. The bench said, “we are wondering why the government chose to keep their eyes shut”.

The Supreme Court has now asked both Ramdev and Balakrishnan to appear in Court on April 10 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
