Leaders of opposition have gathered in Bengaluru to decide upon the strategy to take on BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. They hosted a dinner last night and today they will hold formal talks between 11 am and 4 pm.
According to the sources, Sonia Gandhi who is the chairperson of UPA is likely to be named as the President of the Front while Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar the Convener.
The top leaders who are going to take part in the two day opposition meet include Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Nitish Kumar, MK Stalin, Mamata Banerjee, Hemant Soren and also RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. NCP leader Sharad Pawar is also expected to join the meeting later.
All opposition parties have been asked to suggest a name for the Front which should have the word “India” and some suggestions also for the Common Minimum Programme. The tag line for the Front is decided to be “United we stand”. However, the states’ subject will be kept separate.
“Like-minded opposition parties shall closely work together to foster an agenda of social justice, inclusive development and national welfare. We want to free the people of India from the autocratic and anti-people politics of hate, division, economic inequality and loot… United We Stand, for this INDIA,” said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in a tweet.
The meeting is led by Congress, which has recently won in assembly elections in Karnataka. The win shook the opposition and placed Congress in a commanding position.
The opposition meeting is now coming at a time of BJP’s show of strength in Delhi. Tomorrow, the NDA will also hold a meeting over BJP’s anxiety, said Pawan Khera.
