Smriti Irani, a Union Minister and BJP leader, slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday for his support for Minister Satyendar Jain, who was detained in a money laundering case. “Corruption, according to Arvind Kejriwal, is akin to desh se gaddari” (anti-nationalism). Is he aware that he is patronising those who have defrauded the government and the people? Isn’t he deserving of the title of desh ka gaddar? She asked, “How long will he (Jain) have his (Kejriwal’s) support?”
Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, supported Satyendar Jain on Wednesday, calling him a “hardcore honest and patriot” who was framed in a “false case” and expressing hope that the minister would be cleared after the ED investigation. He also suggested that Jain be given the Padma Vibhushan for inventing the “mohalla clinics” model, which serves people for free.
According to the Delhi State Health Bulletin, 368 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi on Wednesday. While the positive incidence was 1.74 percent, 404 patients were able to recover from the virus. The number of active cases in Delhi today stands at 1,567.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a jailed mobster suspected of being implicated in the murder of Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala, withdrew his plea from the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, alleging apprehension of a fake encounter by the Punjab Police. Instead, he will go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Bishnoi was taken into prison by Delhi Police for three days on Tuesday in connection with a different Arms Act case, a day after he was questioned by police inside Tihar jail regarding the killing of Moosewala.
