Lawrence Bishnoi, 35, a suspect in the murder of Shubdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moosewala, filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday, claiming that he was falsely named in the FIR filed for the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala on the basis of unreliable claims made on social media platforms.
Faced with a severe threat to his life, Bishnoi stated that he may be killed in a staged confrontation using other non-legal means. Bishnoi’s appeal is set to be heard in front of the high court on Thursday.
Bishnoi, through his counsels Sangram Saron and Shubreet Kaur, has asked the high court to order the Punjab Police to disregard his physical presence and production in the FIR no – 103, registered at PS City – I, Mansa, and other FIRs filed against him, as there is a serious threat and apprehension to his life and well-being.
Bishnoi has also requested that the Punjab Police be directed to question him in connection with the FIR filed in Mansa via online mode, video conference, or within the confines of Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
“…the petitioner has been mentioned in the FIR no. 103 dated May 29, 2022, simply to cover up the investigation’s deficiencies,” the suit claims. Furthermore, the petitioner is being used as a scapegoat and is being wrongfully blamed. In reality, even before the FIR was filed, the petitioner was effectively proclaimed guilty of the heinous crime by the Punjab Police’s highest official… Based on untrustworthy accusations made on social media platforms, the petitioner was unfairly and erroneously mentioned in the FIR without any actual evidence. In addition, the petitioner lacks access to social media platforms and communication devices.”
Bishnoi further claimed that he faces a major threat to his life and that “he (Bishnoi) can be put to hurt, or liquidated by extrajudicial means” if he is produced or released from detention in connection with the investigation being done in the FIR registered for the murder of Shubhdeep Singh.
Bishnoi has been in custody “since March 15, 2015 in Bharatpur, Central Jail, Rajasthan, and thereafter shifted to Tihar Jail, New Delhi, and there is no proof, complaint, or other material to suggest that the petitioner has been involved in the allegations on the basis of which FIR has been registered at Mansa,” according to the petition. As a result, Bishnoi requested that his interrogation be audio or video recorded in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives.
Bishnoi’s lawyer withdrew his case from the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, saying he will instead go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
