Four members of the Central Reserve Police Force who lost their lives in the line of duty in an anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh in April 2021 will receive the Kirti Chakra, the second-highest peacetime gallantry award in the nation.
Eleven individuals will get the Shaurya Chakra, the third-highest peacetime gallantry award, including nine from the Army and one each from the Jammu & Kashmir Police and the CRPF. Posthumous names have been given to five of them.
These are a some of the 76 gallantry medals that President Droupadi Murmu granted for members of the military forces and the Central military Police Forces (CAPF) on Monday, the night before the 77th Independence Day.
The awards include 54 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry), and four Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
“The President has also approved 30 Mention-in-Despatches to the Army, including to Army dog Madhu (Posthumous), and one to Air Force personnel for their significant contributions in different military operations,” it said.
The Kirti Chakra has been awarded posthumously to Dilip Kumar Das, Raj Kumar Yadava, Bablu Rabha, and Sambha Roy.
Operation Rakshak, Operation Snow Leopard, Operation Casualty Evacuation, Operation Mount Chomo, Operation Pangsau Pass, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Orchid, Operation Kalisham Valley, Rescue Operation, and Operation Evacuation are among the missions, according to the release.
The President also authorised the awarding of five Tatrakshak Medals (TM) and one President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) to members of the Indian Coast Guard in recognition of their exemplary devotion to duty and distinguished/meritorious service. Included in this are the Commandant Anurag Shukla and Sultan Singh, Pradhan Navik, Tatrakshak Medal (Gallantry) recipients.
