The 46th Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Swami Avimukteshwarananda, has come out in favour of Congressman Rahul Gandhi, following his tough speech in the Lok Sabha a few days ago. During the discussion of the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address, Rahul Gandhi accused BJP leaders of allegedly separating people along sectarian lines, which sparked a scandal.
In an attack on the speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rahul Gandhi had labelled the “entire Hindu community as violent.” A violent debate in Parliament resulted from this claim, and the Speaker had to remove some divisive remarks from the records as a result.
One Hindu revered authority, the Shankaracharya, provided an alternative viewpoint. “We heard Rahul Gandhi’s full speech with great attention. The Shankaracharya stated on Sunday that Hinduism categorically forbids violence.
The pontiff also denounced what he called the selective distribution of Mr. Gandhi’s address in a video that has gone popular on social media, calling for those who misrepresent the facts to face consequences. He said, “It is unethical and misleading to present only fragments of Gandhi’s statement. Those who do so should face consequences.”
Priyanka Gandhi, a Congress MP and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, has also supported her brother against the accusations. “Rahul is never allowed to criticise Hindus. He made comments aimed at the leaders of the BJP,” she stated.
