On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, India time, Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan made his debut on the Met Gala blue carpet in New York, looking stunning in an all-black Sabyasachi outfit. Together with Diljit Dosanjh, Khan made history by being the first male Indian actor to attend the Met.
A portion of the western press that was live-streaming Khan’s historic debut appeared to be oblivious of his international prominence, as one reporter even asked him his name. SRK is heard stating, “I’m Shah Rukh,” when he introduces himself to reporters in one of the event’s widely shared videos.
According to a recent ranking by Esquire Magazine, Shah Rukh Khan, one of the biggest stars in Indian film, is the fourth richest actor in the world. Khan’s films have influenced popular culture worldwide and cut across national boundaries. As a result, it seems sense that some media outlets’ coverage of the MET infuriated fans on social media. Posts criticising the treatment of Khan used words like “clueless” and “disrespectful.” The tennis star Maria Sharapova’s statement that she was unaware of Sachin Tendulkar’s identity is echoed in this instance.
In addition to Khan, Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh walked the Met Gala 2025 blue carpet.
The Met Gala, which takes place every year on the first Monday (ET) of May, is known as one of the most glamorous evenings in fashion. It is an annual event to raise money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The official theme of the evening this year was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the Institute’s spring show that highlighted the Black Dandyism fashion history.
