Maharashtra on Friday reported seven new cases of omicron, including a 3 year old kid who took the case tally to 17, said the state health department.
The total Covid-19 cases recorded in the state on that day stood at 695. Three omicron cases were from the state capital Mumbai.
“As per the recent report from the National Institute of Virology, seven new Omicron cases have been reported in the state, three from Mumbai and four from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation,” said an official release.
The health department said, the three cases from Mumbai were all males, aged between 25 and 50 with travel history of UK, Tanzania and South Africa-Nairobi.
According to the Beihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the traveller, who came from Tanzania was a resident of densely populated Dharavi slum area, once a biggest hotspot. He was asymptomatic but he isolated himself before meeting anybody.
The other four cases were reported by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pune. All the three are contact of three Nigerian women, who were earlier omicron positive.
Out of the seven, four were fully vaccinated and were asymptomatic while the other three had mild symptoms, the release said.
“One patient has received a single dose of the coronavirus vaccine while one patient has not been vaccinated. Another patients is three and a half years old and not eligible for vaccination,” the release further said.
According the release, total of 61,439 international travellers have arrived in the state through Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur airports since December 1. 9,678 have fled from the countries enlisted in ‘at risk’.
The BMC has said that the tally in Mumbai has increased to 5 on Friday.negative
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar aaid, five out of seven patients tested positive for omicron in Pune have now tested negative.
