Delhi Introduces Scrapping Benefits Under Its EV Policy

In an order issued on February 25, 2021 the Delhi Government made it compulsory for all owned or leased by government of NCT of Delhi to adopt electric vehicles by August 6, 2021, said the Union Minister.

Delhi Government on Monday announced in Parliament that under its Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020, it will provide scrapping incentives of up to Rs 7,500 per vehicle for auto and light commercial vehicle.

The government had initiated this EV Policy on August 7, 2020 to encourage the adoption the clean mobility solution.

The policy aims to establish the feasibility for large scale adoption of electric passenger four wheelers, through transitioning its entire government fleet to electric.

The policy aims at transforming the whole government fleet to electric by the adoption of electric vehicles on a large scale.

“Under the provision, all leased/hired cars used for commute of GNCTD officers shall be transitioned to electric within a period of twelve months from the date of issue of this policy,” informed the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Minister for MSMEs Nitin Jayaram Gadkari in Rajya Sabha.

In an order issued on February 25, 2021 the Delhi Government made it compulsory for all owned or leased by government of NCT of Delhi to adopt electric vehicles by August 6, 2021, said the Union Minister.

“Under the Delhi EV Policy, 2020 —scrapping incentive is provided for the vehicles in lieu of scrapping a more polluting conventional vehicle. However, the scrapping incentive for vehicle is applicable on the evidence of matching contribution from the dealer or OEM, such that Government of NCT of Delhi will provide incentive matching the contribution made by the OEM or dealer on the scrapping value of the vehicle, not exceeding ₹5,000 per vehicle for two-wheelers and ₹7,500 per vehicle for Auto and Light Commercial Vehicle,” said Gadkari.

Private and Two-wheeler are also included in the scheme and there are other incentives also, he added.
