The Supreme Court is scheduled to finally pronounce today its verdict on the batch of petitions filed for recognition of same-sex marriage in India. The verdict had to be pronounced following 10 days of marathon hearings on the case.

This case will bring a major shift in the LGBT rights which is coming after the apex court decriminalized homosexuality back in 2018.

The five-judge constitution bench headed Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice S Ravindra Bhat, Justice PS Narasimha, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Hima Kohli will pronounce the verdict today, which is coming Cter hearing centre, many petitioners, some states and organizations for 10 days.

The top court had heard arguments from about 40 lawyers for 10 days in May this year.

The petitions filed in the top court repeatedly asked for legally recognizing the same-sez marriage and also to reinterpret the provisions of the Special Marriage Act 1954.

Meanwhile, the Centre had argued that legalizing the same-sex marriage was not in hand of court rather it was the Parliament that can legislate it after consultations with the states. The centre even said even if the court tries to do so then there will be amendments in many other laws.
