Days after alleging that external affairs minister S Jaishankar “does not understand the China threat”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday once again questioned the Centre’s attitude towards Beijing as he claimed that the basic idea behind the Chinese troops on the Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh borders is similar to what is happening in Ukraine. Gandhi added that he even brought up the threat to Jaishankar, who rejected it and called it a “ludicrous idea,” according to the news source.
“In my opinion, the fundamental concept guiding the deployment of soldiers in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh is comparable to what is occurring in Ukraine. The foreign minister (S Jaishankar) and I discussed this, but he completely disagrees with me and believes it is a ridiculous idea, Gandhi said as he concluded a week-long visit to the UK.
Comparing the Indian borders to that of Ukraine, Gandhi said, “The basic principle that has been applied in Ukraine is that Russia has told Ukraine that we do not accept your relationship with Europe and America and if you do not change this relationship, we will challenge your territorial integrity.”
“I believe that this is what is taking place on my nation’s boundaries. China opposes us cooperating with the United States. By threatening to take action if you maintain your connection, it is threatening us. They have soldiers in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh for this reason, Rahul Gandhi continued.
Jaishankar recently defended India’s stance toward China in an interview, claiming that it was Prime Minister Modi, not Rahul Gandhi, who sent troops to the Line of Actual Control.
Gandhi said he was fine with India’s foreign policy but not with the situation in China on Sunday while speaking with media in London. He claimed that he spoke with the foreign secretary. “I had a discussion about it in a group meeting. I am unable to remark on that. He simply doesn’t comprehend it, though. He is free to say whatever he wishes. However, the administration is unaware of the true danger posed by China. Many critics also made this claim, according to Rahul Gandhi.
