Rishi Sunak First Person In Colour To Become UK’s Prime Minister

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has finally become the new UK Prime Minister suceeding Liz Truss who resigned from the top post in just six weeks. At the age of 42 he is the youngest and first person of colour to hold the post.

Mr Sunak has been tasked to run the staggering economy of the country. After being chosen as the new Prime Minister in his first address he said it was the “Greatest privilege of my life… Will work day in and out to deliver”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Rishi Sunak wrote on his Twitter handle, “”I look forward to working closely together on global issues, and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the ‘living bridge’ of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership”.

UK has having its third Prime Minister is just seven months. Sunak’s predecessor Liz Truss who had defeated him for the post and succeeded former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, resigned in just 45 days of tenure on October 20.

Mr Johnson cutting short his ongoing vacation had also entered the race again, but he ended his bid midway saying, he will not be able to lead “a united party in parliament”.

Meanwhile, Sunak’s another contender Penny Mordaunt failed to secure required support of 100 members hence, lost the post. While, the Indian-origin legislator had the support of more than 180 members of parliament which is far above than the required 100.

Liz Truss had resigned from the top post after her mini-budget plan – – including enormous unfunded tax reductions – – scared markets. “Given the situation, I cannot do the mandate for which I was elected,” she said while speaking to media.

Currently, United Kingdom is going a economic crisis along with increasing interest rates. Critics are putting the blame of economic downfall on the Conservative Party calling it a “series of miscalculations”.
