After Kapil Mishra was awarded the ticket from his current seat, the BJP hurried to appease the departing MLA from Karawal Nagar. Then, in the third list of candidates announced on Sunday, Mohan Singh Bisht received a ticket from Mustafabad in advance of the Delhi Assembly election on February 5.
“The BJP believes they will field anyone and he will win,” Mr. Bisht, who has won every assembly poll from Karawal Nagar except one since 1998, had previously stated. This is a serious error. Not Mohan Singh Bisht, but the’samaj’ (his Uttarakhandi community) is the target of your task. This decision will cost the BJP at least 8–10 seats, including those in Karawal Nagar, Burari, Mustafabad, and Gokalpuri.
Mr. Bisht later declared his optimism in winning the BJP seat in Mustafabad. “I met the national president and things were ironed out. I have assured that I will contest from Mustafabad and win the seat for the party,” Bisht told news agency. The MLA said he and the BJP had considerable support in Mustafabad and he has already attended two public meetings there.
Another demonstration against the Tughlakabad candidate was held at the Delhi BJP office. The demonstrators, who were primarily young people, screamed, “Vikram Bidhuri Tum Sangharsh Karo; Modi Se Bair Nahi, Rohtas Teri Khair Nahi,” while the party leaders attempted to appease them. Rohtas Bidhuri was put forward from the Tughlakabad seat on the second list of BJP candidates.
Following the release of the initial list of candidates earlier this month, some party workers also staged a similar demonstration against Mehrauli candidate Gajainder Yadav outside the Delhi BJP office. The single candidate named on the third list of BJP candidates for the Delhi elections is Mr. Bisht. There were 29 candidates each in the first and second lists. The BJP has announced 59 candidates thus far.
Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled on February 5, the counting of votes for which will be held on February 8. The elections will see the Aam Aadmi Party looking to retain power for the third consecutive term, despite many of its leaders being tainted by various cases. The BJP, out of power in Delhi since 1998, is making all-out efforts to return to the helm.
