Rekha Gupta, the chief minister-designate and first-time Shalimar MLA, met with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas late Wednesday to assert their claim to form the government, along with the other six members of the seven-member Delhi cabinet. According to BJP sources, Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta was named speaker of the Delhi Assembly, and Parvesh Verma, a new Delhi MLA, is expected to take over as deputy chief minister. The results of the Assembly election, which were announced on February 8, showed that the BJP had gained a resounding majority of 44 out of 70 seats, bringing them back to power in Delhi after 27 years. The next chief minister’s swearing-in ceremony is set on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan.
Swearing-in ceremony for Delhi’s chief minister at Ramlila Maidan: The consecration ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir is likely to be the topic of Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony for Delhi’s new chief minister and cabinet ministers, which will be held in Ramlila Maidan. It is anticipated that between 25,000 and 30,000 people would attend, including well-known Hindu seers and local residents. Popular BJP MPs and prominent NDA leaders are also anticipated to attend the ceremony tomorrow, in addition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to party insiders, the names — for CM and Council of Ministers — were likely to include “a mix of experience and youth”, with representation from each of the dominant caste and community groupings in the Capital. In all likelihood, the new Delhi CM will be chosen from among BJP’s elected MLAs and not MPs, with names like Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy being discussed as potential candidates.
