A lady was taken into custody by Rajasthan police on Monday for giving guns and cover to one of the gunmen who had shot Karni Sena head Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. Nitin Fauji, who lived in the couple’s rented flat in the Jagatpura neighbourhood of Jaipur for almost a week prior to carrying out the murder on December 5, was armed by Pooja Saini, who is allegedly connected to a criminal network, and her husband Mahendra Meghwal, according to news agency, which quoted Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph.
Due to their suspected involvement in the case, the police have already detained three men, including two shooters. The magistrate at the local court heard their appearance and remanded them to police detention for a period of seven days. The gunmen, Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji, and their accomplice, Udham Singh, were apprehended on Saturday night in Chandigarh’s sector 22.
According to the police, Meghwal, also known as Sameer, is a Kota history sheeter who is escaping.
Additional Commissioner of Police Kailash Chandra Bishnoi claims that on November 28, Fauji arrived in Jaipur via cab and met Meghwal, who drove him to the Jagatpura flat. According to the PTI story, he continued to communicate with gangster Rohit Godara via Meghwal.
Notably, Godara—affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang—had posted on Facebook that he was responsible for Gogamedi’s death.
Meghwal allegedly obtained more than six handguns and a considerable quantity of ammunition, while Fauji stole two handguns and their associated magazines for himself and one handgun and two magazines for Rathore, according to the police. The article further stated that they claimed Meghwal’s spouse Pooja had cooked meals for Fauji.
Rathore was waiting for Fauji when Meghwal dropped him off on Ajmer Road on the day of the murder (Dec 5). After that, they were driven to the home of the leader of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena in the Shyam Nagar neighbourhood of Jaipur. Thanks to Naveen Shekhawat, who knew the Karni Sena commander, they were able to enter the residence. The gunmen started shooting at Gogamedi after they had been speaking to him for a short while. They also killed Shekhawat before fleeing from the spot, the report further mentioned.
Police said they found a photo of an AK-47 rifle from Meghwal’s flat.
“Substantial evidence has been recovered from the flat which indicates that a network of Lawrence Bishnoi gang was operating from there. During the investigation, it came to light that the couple had provided weapons for the crime executed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Jaipur,” Bishnoi said.
