The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the home of the superintendent and revenue in-charge officer of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation in Telangana on Friday and found ₹ three crore in cash and gold valued at lakhs.
Officer Dasari Narendar’s home was searched by the ACB, who found ₹ 2.93 crore in cash hidden there as well as ₹ 1.10 crore in bank balances from accounts he, his wife, and his mother owned. The money was found hidden beneath his bed in carton cartons.
Eleven immovable assets valued at ₹ 1.98 crore and around 51 tolas (595 grammes) of gold valued at ₹ six lakh were also taken into custody. The assets that have been seized so far have a combined worth of about ₹ 6.07 crore.
During the raid, which was carried out in connection with a complaint filed against him for having excessive assets, assets well beyond his recognised sources of income were discovered.
Following the raid, Narendar—a man chosen on humanitarian grounds following the death of his father—was taken into custody.
Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which address the acquisition of assets through corrupt means that are out of proportion to known sources of income, apply to Narendar’s case.
In an effort to locate more assets, the ACB is undertaking additional searches.
