Punjab To Soon Become Drug-Free, CM Mann Assures Revival Of Hockey In State

Receiving the Men’s Hockey World Cup trophy at his residence Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann promised that no stone will be left unturned to bring back the ancient glory of hockey by promoting sports and making the state drug-free.

The CM further said that Punjabis have always made the state proud by performing brilliantly in hockey worldwide.

It was a moment of pride for the country that the Indian hockey group won the Olympic medal after 41 years in the Olympic Games held in Tokyo last year and 11 players in this team, including the captain Manpreet Singh belonged to Punjab.

Punjab’s Ajitpal Singh captained the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1975. Most of the players of the World Cup team to be hosted by India one month from now are also from Punjab.

Mr Mann said that it is needed to continue on this path of victory to win more and more medals for this country. He expressed sorrow that despite hockey being the national sport it was far behind in its field.

However, he assured that the current ruling government will give due importance to this sport.

Big initiatives are being take to make the state completely free of drugs, said the Chief Minister.
