The Income Tax department on Wednesday conducted its raids at the properties of film actress Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. The raids continued till evening on Wednesday and again started in the morning on Thursday.
The raids have recovered many documents and computer peripherals. However, the move has not surprised the Maharashtra government but many actors and actresses including Anubhav Sinha and Swara Bhaskar came out in favour of both Taapsee and Anurag.
Following the anti-disciplinary action taken by the Income Tax Dept, the NCP chief spokesperson and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik said, “Central agencies like ED, CBI, and Income Tax are being used to target those who take an anti-government stand and speak against the policies of the regime.”
Calling the action an ordinary one the PWD minister Ashik Chavan said, “We have been seeing this as happening often. Those who put forth facts are being pressurised in this way so that they don’t speak up.”
Maharashtra women and child development minister Yashomati Thakur referred it as a restriction to freedom as she said, “They work with so much vengeance. They don’t want anyone to enjoy the freedom a democracy gives. For them, it is an autocratic rule and whatever they say is right and whatever others want to say is wrong”.
“Hope the Income Tax department of our country, is saved from bonded slavery status soon. Same wishes for ED and CBI too,” tweeted a Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra who had been recently in question of sedition also condemn the action as an outcome to those who stand straight.
The department conducted raids at some 20 locations in both Pune and Mumbai to bring out more evidence to take out a strong action against the both.
