Pro-Kannada groups have called for bandh in Karnataka today from 6 am to 6 pm in opposition to sharing Cauvery water with Tamil Nadu. This comes just two days after Bengaluru bandh on September 26.

Pro-Kannada activist and former MLA Vatal Maharaj said that a procession will be taken out between Town Hall and city’s Freedom Park and the state will completely be shutdown.

The state BJP and JD(S) have also come into solidarity with the protesting groups.

As soon after the Pro-Kannada groups and the farmer outfits announced to block major highways in state, the city Police in Bengaluru imposed Section 144 for 24 hours to monitor the situation.

On September 26, these farmer outfits and the Pro-Kannada groups had called for a strike for the issue but they received an incomplete response.

As soon after the announcement of statewide bandh on September 29, state government announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mandya and Bengaluru.

However, some private schools have decided to conduct online classes.

A good number of people left Bengaluru on September 27 because of extended holidays and a number of companies have asked its employees to work from home.
